Since prehistoric times, the canyon of Cavagrande has been inhabited by the ancient Siculi, and on the southern side of the canyon we find the largest fortified settlement of the reserve, known as the Dieri. This complex of caves and tunnels, which wind on different parallel levels, is truly a masterpiece of ancient engineering. Named after the Arabic "diyar", meaning "home", these settlements have over 2500 years of history and host hundreds of rock environments.
